The Resident

Well, this is kind of confusing... A Hilary Swank film that is not inspired by true events? Haven't seen that in a while. Nevertheless, she nailed it. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan.

The film is an excellent suspense thriller. The beginning of the film offers and bathes you in mystery. It slowly lets you feel the environment, disarming you and letting the suspense creep. Then, somewhere in the middle, it tells you everything you need to know and concentrates on the horror aspect of the film. It builds suspense very quickly and tries to avoid those sudden frightening boo moments. Of course, there are a few, but luckily not in a Scream manner. They're done quite well.

The cast is pretty good, consisting of Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and the ever-spooky Christopher Lee. I have to be honest, I didn't quite feel Jeff in his role of a demented sicko. He generally looks like a nice guy, so I understand how it didn't quite click into place. He did put an amazing amount of effort, though. Hilary, on the other hand, is a terrific actress so she had no problem at all. She even shows a little meat in the film and she is a hottie, which is pretty much always a plus.

Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking... It's already been seen. But, that doesn't change the fact that it's a decent film. Also, if you know when to look, you can also see how Hilary likes to trim her pubic hair. So, good luck with that.

7 out of 10.
