Rango

It had me from the beginning, with the singing mariachi owls. The initial enthusiasm was pretty much upheld throughout the movie, minus 20 minutes in the middle - something happened there, I guess the lack of action, that got my mind spiraling towards boredom. Luckily, it went away and I could honestly say that I enjoyed Depp as Rango.

Granted, from time to time there's a glimpse of Jack Sparrow or Victor from Corpse Bride but it is to be expected. Rango as a lonely chameleon stuck in the Mojave dessert is an interesting and fun sight to see (and hear). Laughs are there and you should expect to be surprised by the dialogues that are, at times, quite graphic and not really kid-appropriate but that just made the whole movie a lot more fun!

So, you've got chameleons, rattlesnakes, rodents and moles - not an animated crowd that one gets to see often which makes this even more appealing. There are two scenes that are nods towards Fear and Loathing in LA and Eastwood - not going to say more (hint: they don't disappoint).

Watch it. It's a solid 7.
