Rubber - a spark of originality.

Ok, this stupendous piece of art makes it clear from the very beginning that this is an homage, or a tribute if you like, to "no reason". Why? No reason. Get the picture?

I understand that this is entirely a French production, spoken in English and set in the US. And it really shows. Is it because of that foreign production or the insane originality that comes with the film - I don't know.

In a sentence, it's about an inanimate object coming to life and to grips with the realization of itself and its telepathic destructive powers. Simple as it may seem, there's even more of the surreal added through "the viewers" and a bit with the ending. It also has the most amazing dark humor, both spoken and shown. Plus, all of that is accompanied by a number of slightly related or unrelated events that are in complete and utter service to "no reason". I do not dare reveal more.

Anyway, to wrap this all up... Perhaps it starts out a bit slow, perhaps it is set out not to provide a particular point, but that is where the "bad" things end. Everything else is fantastic. The acting is amazing, the setting is good, the screenplay is excellent, the effects are great and it really, truly, absolutely doesn't get more original than this.

It really is a must. 8 out of 10.
