Sucker Punch

To be frank, I thought this film would be much worse. Once again, my seemingly infallible intuition was wrong. That happens a lot lately. From now on, I'm just gonna watch everything.

So, basically, this is what Zack Snyder does best. All of his trademark style is in this one. The strange camera angles, incredible slow motion sequences, those extremely fluent camera movements and amazing close-ups. Besides that, he presents a beautiful style of storytelling which he made sure we notice from the very start.

That mentioned beginning of the film is probably the one with the most impact factor to it. Snyder shows us the entire back-story without anyone uttering a single word. And while doing so, he even manages to induce emotions such as compassion and sympathy.

He then proceeds to create these outrageous fantasy worlds, through which our protagonist and her mates fight in order to free themselves from the chains of confinement, abuse and exploitation inside a loony bin. The CGI in these worlds is unbelievable and even more improved with that discussed brand that is Snyder.

Unfortunately, it still is and probably always will be my firm belief that CGI and special effects, although done beautifully here, do not make a film. And there is quite a lot of those in this one.

So, with that considered, I'm gonna go ahead and give it a seven. Plus one for CGI fans.

P.S. The costumes. Oh my god, the costumes. Hint: I'm a dude.
