Arthur - no need to go there.

Way, way, way back (so back that it pains me to remember), I watched the original Arthur, starring Dudley Moore and Lisa Minelli. It wasn't a great movie but it had its moments - at least Dudley could pull off the drunken, rich millionaire with perfection (probably because in real life he was one...at least in the '80's). So, what was the point of a remake?

As is often the case, remakes have no point. And, as logic would dictate, they usually turn out to be flops. I suppose the new Arthur was one as well - I could google it but see no point. Who cares.

Tell you what, I used to like Mr Brand's comedic efforts on British TV and radio. His transition to Hollywood was interesting to watch despite his MTV connections. But, in all honesty, one easily tires of him. Also, I tend to lose respect for people who marry bimbos.

If you haven't watched the original, you might get a laugh or two out of this one. If you have, however, leave it unspoilt. Sure, Helen Mirren is here but is she really? And, more importantly, why the hell is she?!

The unknown actress playing Arthur's love interest...well, let's just say that Kristen Stewart is Meryl Streep compared to this one.

It gets 5 out of 10 (since there's nothing else out on DVD at the moment).
