Why the hell would you do that? - asked Deathstroke.
Well, the trailer seemed interesting, there was nothing more appealing to watch, it seemed like a comedy and something that I was in the mood for. Sundance usually means indie-like movies and, from time to time, you desperately need something that isn't Hollywood. All that in mind, I actually did not expect much from this one and, as all cliches go, I liked it! Quite a lot, actually.
Here you have John C. Reilly who is constantly playing second fiddle to whoever, wherever, Jonah Hill who is not a likeable person whatsoever (and here I'm not talking just about his weight) and, of course, lovely Marisa Tomei whose career has been on the rise ever since The Wrestler.
The story of how John's character falls in love with Marisa's is perfect up till the moment when he meets her son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill, naturally). Nobody can play a prick like Hill can! It suits him perfectly. His devious schemes to fuck up his mom's relationships are textbook style brilliant.
The ending might be a happy one but certainly not in that regular we-all-love-each other way. You just get a possible glimpse of a reunion that may or may not be screwed again by Cyrus (and knowing everything you do about him, the odds are at his side).
Seriosly, go watch this one. It's an 8.
