After all the bullshit we were all forced to watch lately, it gets incredibly difficult to write a positive, overwhelming review of something that is this good. And this one, believe you me, actually is! Close to two hours long, you don't even notice. Because it is based on a true story, you are easily engulfed into the emotions that, quite often, shift from Colin Firth's stummer of King George the 6th to his physician (let's call him that) Lionel, brilliantly played by Geoffrey Rush.
Actually, the whole cast is wonderful and that talk of Oscars and nominations is spot on. I know, I know, I keep mentioning Oscars in my reviews but, hell, I'm an old-fashioned gal and back in the days of yore, one got all excited about them. So, to keep up the tradition, if I could, I would turn all hope-to-be 10 nominations that this movie is probably going to get into the real deal. Firth's is in the bag, for sure. And if Bale doesn't win for his supporting role in The Fighter, I wouldn't be too pissed about it if it goes to Rush. Helena Bonham Carter is lovely as always but this is Firth-Rush production, no question about it.
Am I boring you with all the praise? Too bad, there's not a single bad word I can write about this movie except to say, Black Swan got a 9 - but there's a new movie in town and it gets a 10.
