Finally, a thriller worth watching! Adorned with its mid-to-high grade actors in a story that just screams "cabin fever", but provides much more.
The film is, once again, wonderfully cast with the rugged Jamie Bell, the blue eyed enigma that is Cillian Murphy and the lovely Thandie Newton. And just how well did they all fit together? Perfectly.
Every one of them managed to bring out their characters to light with incredible ease. Presenting a wide array of emotion, distress and pain of loss. The story itself isn't all that bad either. Slightly unlikely, but not all that impossible. Without revealing too much, I'll just try and introduce the story the best I can.
So, basically, you get a couple who is distorted and torn by the pain and burden of loss in a isolated island cabin which, as we've all learned from The Shining a long time ago, only makes the matter and the emotions involved worse. Also, like all of that wasn't already enough, trouble comes in from the mainland and more confusion ensues.
So, that is really the closest I can get you to it without spoiling it. It might be a bit sluggish at first, but it really makes up for it and provides greatly as it progresses. One of the most interesting thrillers I've seen this year, for sure.
7 out of 10.
