Since Tamerlane here went full on with hatred and disappointment, it's up to me to balance things out. Now, don't worry, that balance won't be respected much longer. I predict that all of our posts will soon be straightforward Hollywood bashing. No exceptions.
Anyway, the movie itself is a wonderful piece of art. Exemplary, I might say. As you probably know, a lot of these animated movies lack soul. They lack that all-important feeling that every family movie should have. A lot of them fail to move the viewer. Which is understandable since we all know who sets the bar - not all of them can stand next to the greats like Wall-E or Finding Nemo. This one had a chance, but unfortunately failed by a speck of dust.
Both animation and storytelling, are outstanding here. You'll catch that whole medieval vibe accompanied by the owl's mystic wisdom and undisputed power. While watching it, you'll find yourself grabbing your seat with excitement. Gasping and laughing. And probably counting every single feather in the movie, just because you can.
Yet again, despite all of those things and much more, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing. The whole element of humor in the movie just wasn't able to punch through the overall story. Don't get me wrong, it is funny here and there, and they have tried. But, it just didn't work for some reason.
If we put that minor glitch aside, the movie itself is quite awesome and it pretty much has it all. An emerging hero, an immortalized and righteous leader, an evil archenemy, a family betrayal, an unbreakable friendship, etc. Oh, and some extraordinary and breath taking battle scenes.
In my opinion, this one takes 8 out of 10.
