Well, I'm not quite sure what to think of this. One thing I do know is that it's a fantastic film. Of course, there are both good and bad aspects of it, but in the end - it sums up to be a real piece of art.
The first obvious reason for being that good is the fact that it's not American. Damn, I love that different vibe you get from watching a non-American film. Totally different, isn't it?
One in question is about a lonely teenager trying to get by and through life whilst circumstantially found in a really distorted and fairly destructive family. Being there, of course, he gets dragged into their everyday life of crime and so the whole ordeal begins.
The whole film possesses a certain aura which emphasizes the overall weight of the film and the characters' lifestyle. It's hard, it's reckless and somewhat sickening. It's also weaved with odd family relationships which add to the mentioned overall feeling.
The cast is not that well known, but obviously well selected. Everyone just slipped into their roles and you wouldn't even think that they are in fact someone else. The most famous one is Guy Pierce who is, of course, a terrific actor.
With everything said so far, plus the ending that keeps echoing in your head, easily 8 out of 10.
